Melissa’s Story

Melissa, 57, always had a very active lifestyle, including working full time, enjoying walks, doing yard work, swimming, and biking, until symptoms of urinary incontinence began to impact her life.

“It all came to a head when I was in a Lowe’s store when I realized I was wetting my pants without the urge of having to go, said Melissa. Needless to say, my blue jeans were drenched and I, very humiliated and embarrassed, left the store as quickly as possible. I went back to my urologist and told him I refuse to live my life this way, something needs to be done.

Hear Melissa’s story in this video testimonial, as she recalls her journey with urge incontinence and her treatment at the Incontinence Institute.

“My life today is back to normal, said Melissa, who had an InterStim® Therapy procedure. I can do what I want, when I want and go where I want without always having to know where the nearest bathroom is.”

Alice’s Story

It didn’t bother me as much during the day but, when I came home from work I wasn’t able to rest. I always had the urge to go. I never experienced any leaking. It was just a terrible urge to go to the bathroom all the time. I was up as many as 6-7 times a night. I had tried different medications. Nothing worked for me, said Alice. I had my InterStim® procedure done outpatient. It was no big deal having it done.

Since I’ve had it done, life has been great. I don’t have any pain. I can rest now. It feels like living again.

Patricia’s Story

I was stuck at home. We live on a farm at The Lake of the Ozarks. I couldn’t walk out to the barn where we have cows, chickens and goats, which was just a few hundred yards away. I would have to turn around and walk back because I had to go to the bathroom, said Patricia. I had a previous surgery with a sling by another doctor. It stopped the stress incontinence but created urge incontinence. I had never had that feeling before. I wasn’t able to go anywhere because I was embarrassed of leaking, which is why I sought treatment. I wanted my life back.

I was really prepared for my procedure because I had done research online. I don’t mind talking about it at all because I want to help other people and get the word out.

Linda’s Story

I am a teacher and I could not focus on teaching and would lose control without warning in the classroom all the time. I couldn’t travel or plan to do a presentation. I lost a ton of weight and everyone thought [I] was terminally ill. My quality of life was zero. I had a faulty gallbladder surgery and had a bile leak for 9 days. [I] needed to have a colon re-section. I was having anywhere from 14-16 bowel movements per day, said Linda. Linda had an InterStim® Therapy procedure to treat her bowel incontinence. My symptoms went away immediately and [my life] was back to normal. InterStim has been a miracle I now have the opportunity to live life to the fullest.
